Only the 18th-century tower remains now of the outer parish church of Paimpol; the rest of the church was demolished between 1914 and 1918. Many of the furnishings and contents were used in the building of the new church, which was finished in 1914. It contains a few furnishings originally from the Abbey of Beauport, as well as a painting in which St. Norbert, founder of the Premonstratensian Order, receives the rule from St. Augustin. An old font has survived, but it would not have been the one from the original church of Paimpol; it is of the double-font type, consisting of a main octagonal basin mounted on a short pedestal base, also octagonal, but much too short and probably not part of the original font; the constructional secondary basin is much smaller, octagonal inside and out, and provided with a drain; it rests on a short polygonal pedestal base. There is practically no ornament on this font, and it is made of coarse granite; there are several holes and damage around the upper rim area, most related probably to an earlier cover and its anchoring parts. The present cover on it is obviously one that never belonged to this font, but it is an interesting one, consisting of an outer octagonal frame with smaller domed lid, also octagonal, hinged at one end to provide access to the interior. It is quite possible that both items, font and cover, were never part of the furnishings of the church of Paimpol, but were recovered from some demolished church in the region. At the west end of the nave is a large object that could be a late font or stoup, more likely the latter, as it is too tall to make a practical baptismal vessel; it is now filled with sand and pebbles and used simply as ornament.
[NB: the original building dated to the 13th or 14th century, but we have no information on its font].
