Blomefield (1805-1810) writes: "L[ittle Hocham w]as a small village between Great Hocham and Illington; in the Confessor's time it belonged to Ailwin, and in the Conqueror's it was held of Roger Bigot by Turold, [...] for life, I imagine, because soon after, it was in Roger's own hands, who gave the church and tithes to the priory of Thetford at their foundation [NB: Roger Bigot or Bigod, Norman knight arrived with William I in 1066 - died in 1107] [...] I suppose the church was not demolished till after Richard the Second's time [i.e., 1377-1399], for then we meet with the church of St. Mary at Hocham," The Domesday entry (fol. 116) cited in Blomefield (ibid.) uses the spelling 'Hockham' ["in Parvo Hockham"] and mentions neither church nor priest in it, so the earliest church here would have been the one founded by Roger Bigod. Lewis' Dictionary of 1833 has Little Hockham in the entry for "Hockham (Holy Trinity)", but notes: "There was formerly a church, or chapel, at Little Hockham, but it has been demolished." Kelly's Directory of 1883 notes: "LITTLE HOCKHAM was formerly a separate parish; it is now a hamlet, about 1 mile south", but mentions no church or chapel in it.
