Harrison (1920) notes the lower stage of the church tower as Norman, but does not mention a font in this church. Illustrated in Drmmond-Roberts (1935). The CRSBI (2008) mentions the photograph in Drummond-Roberts, and adds: "The form of the font (a square bowl on five columns) suggests that it might be of 12thc. or 13thc. origin, although its various elements have been replaced or renewed over time". The Sussex Parish Churches site [www.sussexparishchurches.org/content/view/36/34/] [accessed 4 February 2013] reports the font in this church: "Square with a chamfered underside and cut-away angles. It is a C19 copy of an original that vanished in 1861". 'The Parish of Sutton with Seaford: A Brief History of St. Leonard’s Church [www.seafordparish.org.uk/St. Leonard's History.pdf] [accessed 4 February 2013] informs: "A new font, designed by Mel Howse, is to be placed on the dais: replacing the large square stone font which had stood at the south doorway since 1895 (when the west door was reopened) (and before that under the tower, where it had replaced an earlier one which is said to have disappeared about 1862)." [NB: the 'replacement' here was actually done in 2010].
