Church Notes: Original church of the monastery said to have been founded in 1165/8 by Doña Sancha de Frías for Premonstratensian canons; it burned down, and was re-built ca. 1580; the east apse is original -- until recently the old monastery had been used as a seminary [Monasterio-Noviciado de los hermanos de las Escuelas Cristianas]. More recently [visited Dec. 2012] a retirement residence for priests of the order, centre for spiritual and cultural activities, etc. [Actualmente el monasterio está habitado por los Hermanos de La Salle, que se encargan de su mantenimiento desde 1891, utilizando las dependencias como residencia, Centro de Espiritualidad y lugar de encuentro de campamentos y colonias de jóvenes].

A disused stoup exhibited now in the cloister of the former monastery; it consists of a bucket-shaped basin decorated with deeply-carved scenes below a rolled moulding that circles the upper rim. The scenes include a human walking a dog on a leash, a bearded left-handed warrior armed with a shield in the right hand and a sword in the left, a man on horseback holding up an unidentified object [is it a falcon?], and an acanthus tree or large plant; to the right of this tree or plant is another armed male figure that appears to be stabbing a quadruped through the mouth; he may be armed with a shield as well; each 'scene' has a three-bulge cloud above; though suspected to have been a holy-water stoup, the inner well of the basin has centre drain. The stoup stands on a cylindrical shaft broken in its middle; the lower base is round-to-square, a thin roll moulding atop, then a broad one winth spurs (?) at 90-degree angles, and a square lower volume, all of it very worn.
