The church is noted in Harrison (1920) as "Erected by Buttefield in 1850". The font is noted in English Heritage [www.britishlistedbuildings.co.uk/en-413298-the-parish-church-of-st-mary-magdalene-w] [accessed 23 January 2013]: "by Butterfield [...] octagonal font of Sussex marble on star-shaped limestone base with four marble colonettes beneath pyramidal timber cover". Diocesan authorities have decided that the village church in West Lavington, near Midhurst, dedicated to St. Mary Magdalene, should close [...] the church will become redundant at some time in the near future."
