Harrison (1920) notes that the old church was re-built in 1838, and mentions no font in it. The English Heritage page [www.britishlistedbuildings.co.uk/en-432516-church-of-st-mary-west-sussex] [accessed 16 January 2013] notes: "Unusual font with a round bowl, the base carved, and deep vertical mouldings to the stem." [NB: this is presumed to be the modern font, the one from the earlier [Norman?] church probably lost when the old church was demolished in 1836].
