Harrison (1920), who gives the dedication of the church as St. James, notes: "Restored in 1892, and N. transept built. Pre-Conquest (Saxon) : nave walls with blocked window and door ; late Nor[man] : chancel arch and corbels"; he also reports "fragments of stoup in porch", presumably of the 15th century; he does not mention a font in this church. The Sussex Parich Churches page [www.sussexparishchurches.org/content/view/161/34/] [accessed 16 January 2013] gives the dedication as St. Mary, and reports a font "Probably c1700, with a gracefully curved bowl on a round stem." Apparently the dedication has switched between the original one, St. Mary's, and St. James', from the 16th to the 20th century, returning now to St. Mary's. The English Heritage [www.britishlistedbuildings.co.uk] [accessed 16 January 2013] does not record a font in this church.
***[THIS INFORMATION APPEARS TO REFER TO FRISTON IN SUFFOLK] Ross, in Britain Express [www.britainexpress.com/photos.htm?attraction=4912] [accessed 16 January 2013] notes: "Spare a glance at the font; the bowl is Victorian, but rests on a base which may be the original medieval font turned upside down."
