Font Notes:
Harrison (1920) reports the symbols of the Four Evangelists "all these are to be found on an ancient font at Framfield." However, in the entry or Framfield proper Harrison makes no mention of the font at all. Recent photographs show a baptismal font without such symbols and dating probably to the 16th century; was this a mistake in Harrison? Is/was there another font here? The present church goes back to the 13th century, and, as Harrison notes, "this church was burnt in 1509, and rebuilt in the Tudor period", so an earlier font could have destroyed in it. [NB: we do not have information on its font, nor do we know which font Harrison was referring to [cf. supra]].
