Ellis (1902) reports: "Another old font stands in Huyton churchyard, near the entrance of the rectory garden, in use as a flower pot. It is very unusual character and rude execution, and possibly dates from the thirteenth century. It consists of a massive bowl of millstone grit, almost square in outline, but having the sides slightly convex in the middle, and the angles produced and rounded. It is entirely without ornament. The cavity of the bowl is circular, and the rim on side still contains the solder for the attachment of a staple, the corresponding portion on the opposite side being broken off. In the middle of one of the sides is a large smoothly bored hole, which has probably been made subsequent to its removal from the church. It stands on a short octagonal shaft and shallow base." [NB: we have no corroboration on the present whereabouts of this font].
