Harrison (1920) notes the original Early English church here "Restored and enlarged in 1878-9"; he does not mention a font in it. The Victoria County History (Sussex, vol. 7, 1940) notes: "The church of St. Peter [...] the chancel and west tower [...] were built in the middle of the 13th century, and a south aisle was added in the late 14th century." There is no mention of font in the VCH entry for this church, but the interior plan shows a font -modern?- located at the west end of the south aisle. The present font consists of an octagonal basin with sides decorated with a trefoil or quatrefoil on each side, raised on an octagonal pedestal base and moulded lower base; probably dated from the late-19th century restoration of the church. [NB: we have no information on the font of the 13th-century church here].
