The Victoria County History (Sussex, vol. 6, pt. 3, 1987) notes: "A chapel of St. Leonard existed in 1215, [...] but [...] had been founded by c. 1208; [...] it survived until the mid 16th century. It was not a chapel of ease [...] No trace has survived of the building, which is said to have been sited either on what became the bay of Hawkins pond or near the Horsham–Colgate road". There is no mention of a font in the VCH entry for this chapel. The present parish church here. the Holy Trinity, dates from the mid-1800s.
