Noted in Dudley (1836): "The font is plain and octagonal." Tyhere is no font mentioned in Harrison"s (1920) entry for this church, but he notes that a Norman was discovered in the north wall of the chancel here in 1898. The Victoria County History (Sussex, vol. 6, pt. 3, 1987) notes: "There was a church at Nuthurst in the 12th century, as architectural evidence shows [...] altered 14th-century font". [NB: we have no information on the font from the 12th-century church here]. The Roughwood British Churches Album [www.roughwood.net/ChurchAlbum/WestSussex/Nuthurst/NuthurstStAndrew2004.htm] [accessed 24 October 2012] notes: "Until 1961, when the cover was being cleaned and gilded, it was discovered by accident that the font had been covered with a mortar rendering at some time in the past and that it was of ancient origin. [...], and is made of Purbeck marble".
