The Victoria County History (Sussex, vol. 5, pt. 1, 1997) notes that the church here, "called a chapel", apparently existed before 1257; "he church was regularly described in the 14th and 15th centuries as the 'church or chapel' of Cudlow." The West Sussex County Council web site [www.westsussex.gov.uk/leisure/explore_west_sussex/record_office_and_archives/] [accessed 24 September 2012] notes: "The Parishes of East and West Cudlow were once situated south of Climping, near Littlehampton, but during the late 16th Century they were submerged by the sea. Until Edwardian times it was possible to see fragments of walls at very low tide
