The Victoria County History (Sussex, vol. 4, 1953) notes: "There was from early times a chapel at Bognor with the invocation of St. Bartholomew, dependent upon the parish church of Pagham. [...] This was stated to have been long standing unserved in 1384 when Archbishop Courtenay presented a chaplain. [...] the chapel of Bognor [...] fell into the sea". [NB: we have no information on whether this former chapel carried out baptisms at the time -- all other churches in Bognor are or were modern].
