Noted in Roger et al. (1844): "Les fonts baptismaux sont formés par un bloc de marbre de Boulogne à huit pans; sur l'une des faces on lit la date de 1559". Not clear what the 'huit pans' in Roger et al. refers to. The present font consists of a cylindrical basin decorated with foliage motifs all around, and including at least one animal (lion?) head in it; raised on a moulded pedestal base. The metal cover is flat with a hinged opening. The font appears modern, although the motifs themselves are of en old design. [NB: was the font noted in Roger et al. a different one?] [NB: according to Claude Floure [www.ville-blendecques.fr/spip.php?article75] [accessed 5 August 2012] little remains of the Cistercian abbey of Sainte-Colombe of Blendecques; it was founded in 1186; sold in 1793, most of it was re-used; only the 17th-century re-construction of the porch and abbey quarters remains now.]
