Noted in Richard's guide of 1866 as an interesting baptismal font of the 11th or 12th century. Cloquet (1895) adds the Saint-Just en Chaussée font to Enlart's list of Tournai fonts, although it did appear listed in Enlart's text. Enlart (1902) has it as a Tournai font on a five-column base and mentions facing lions as ornamentation. Classed also as a Tournai font in Bond (1908: 205), after Enlart, and in Drake (2002: 177 etc.) Illustrated in Ronse (1929: fig. 16-17). Catalogued in Palissy [ref.: PM60001442], and illustrated in Mémoire (ibid.) [refs.: AP60W00512 -- APMH047046 -- IVR22_96603177ZA -- IVR22_96603176ZA]: baptismal font made of the blue-black limestone of Tournai, consisting of a square basin the sides of which are decorated with a pair of back-to-back lions that resemble cats, a monstruous head issuing grape vines from its mouth, an arcade [...] probably from Tournai, 12th century, following Tollenaere's typology of fonts; restored [="Les fonts baptismaux, en "pierre bleue" se composent d'une cuve de plan carré montée sur un support central circulaire cantonné de quatre colonnettes, l'ensemble reposant sur une base de plan carré. [...] Noted and illustrated in Dominique Vermand [ca. 2005?] [www.eglisesdeloise.com/monument/saint-just-en-chaussee-eglise-saint-just/] [accessed 29 June 2017]. One would think that the arcade on the basin side may probably have been blind originally, the incised motifs added at a later date, but the octafoil floral motif that appears in some of the arches is identical to the one found in one of the spandrels of the upper rim surface of the basin, on the sides of the human face with a conical hat.
