Harrison (1920) reports a Norman font in this church. The Victoria County History (Chirchester, vol. 3, 1935) notes: "The church was built probably at the end of the 11th century [...] Early in the 13th century the chancel was rebuilt and enlarged [...] The church was completely restored in 1851. [...] The font is mainly modern; the bowl is supported by a stone cylinder and four columns which rest upon a stone base, the columns and base being probably the original 12th-century work; the cover is modern." The VCH entry (ibid.) shows an interior plan of the church with the font located at the southwest corner of the nave. The Voice of Hassocks [http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Former_St_Olave%27s_Church,_East_Street,_Chichester_%28NHLE_Code_1026724%29.JPG] [accessed 30 July 2012] reports: "now [28 January 2012] used as a Christian bookshop". The Sussex Parish Churches web site [www.sussexparishchurches.org/content/view/415/33/] [accessed 31 July 2012] notes: "In 1956 after closure, most fittings were removed when it was adapted by H Sherwood (CCC file) as a Christian bookshop, as it remains (the font is now at Elsted)."
