Font Notes:
Catalogued in Palissy [ref.: PM60001072] [www.culture.gouv.fr/public/mistral/dapapal_fr] [accessed 1 July 2012] as a holy-water stoup, now free-standing, consisting of a square capital shaped basin raised on a square pedestal base; there is scroll decoration on the basin sides, and there are traces of paint on it. Like the medieval baptismal font in this church, the stoup is dated in Palissy to the first quarter of the 12th century [= "calcaire : taillé, décor dans la masse, décor à relief engagé [...] Vasque de plan carré reposant sur un haut pied carré. [...] ornementation (volute) [...] oeuvre menacée ; traces de peinture [...] Oeuvre totalement désolidarisée du mur ; polychromie résiduelle ; développement important de mousses. [...] Oeuvre du 12e siècle [...] 1ère moitié [...] contemporaine des fonts baptismaux de la même église."][NB: this object appears listed in the Palissy (ibid.) entry as Liancourt, Église paroissiale Saint-Martin, not Mogneville]. The stoup appears to have been originally attached to a wall, but is now free-standing inside the church; the lower base splays out and is also shaped to be attached to a wall. [cf. Index entry for Mogneville No. 1 for the contemporary baptismal font in this church].
