The Victoria County History (Northampton, vol. 5, 2002) notes: "A chapel associated with the hermitage which stood on Watling Street at the northern end of Old Stratford appears to be first mentioned in a pontage grant of 1352." [NB: we have no information on whether the chapel had a font and or baptismal rights, or depended for some of the sacraments on the nearby churches at Passenham, Furtho or Stony Stratford at the time].
