There are two entries for this Whiston [variant spellings] in the Domesday survey [http://opendomesday.org/place/SK4490/whiston/] [accessed 4 December 2018] neither of which mentions cleric or church in it. The entry for this church in Historic England [Listing NGR: SK4510590025] notes: "Church. C12 west window now built into east wall of C13 tower, south doorway also C13; south wall rebuilt C15; extensive rebuilding of 1881-83 by John Oldrid Scott including addition of new nave and chancel to north of old axis; south porch, vestry and part of tower also of this date"; a font is not mentioned in it. The Parish web site informs: "The earliest record of a church here is 1180 [with the first rector being appointed in 1237]. The present building is a mixture of 12th, 13th and 19th century." The present font appears to be a modern one.
