Additional Comments: famous person font: Liberal general Espartero [Joaquín Baldomero Fernández-Espartero Álvarez de Toro] (1793-1879) was baptised in it on or ca. 27 February 1793 -- moved font: originally from Añavete, according to the local church guide [cf. FontNotes]]
Font Notes:
Baptismal font of reddish stone, consisting of a roughly hemispherical basin decorated with a roll moulding at the upper rim, and a ribbed pattern all around the sides and underbowl; raised on a plain cylindrical pedestal base and a round moulded lower base decorated with graded mouldings; on a minute square plinth. The font is a competent but not refined work. It is now located near the altar, probably not its original location. The church itself dates from the 14th century; the font could be from that date or up to two centuries later, as the design was retained throughout that period in this area of Castilla-La Mancha. The local church guide prepared in 2004 by Santiago Donoso García [http://oretum.es/iglesia/iglesia.pdf] [accessed 1 June 2012] informs that this baptismal font was originally from the Iglesia Parroquial de San Miguel in Añavete, and was brought into Santa Ana by the inhabitants of that hamlet when it was abandoned in the 16th century. [cf. Index entry for Oreto for an Early-Christian font nearby].
