The Victoria County History (Bedford, vol. 2, 1908) notes: "The church at Shefford was a chapel of ease to Campton. [...] In 1903, however, Shefford was created an ecclesiastical parish"; as to the date of the church building the VCH dates the tower "from the first half of the fifteenth century", and notes that "The registers previous to 1812 are included in those of Campton". [NB: we have no information on whether a font existed in this church while it served as chapel of ease].
