The Victoria County History (Huntingdon, vol. 2, 1932) notes: "At the time of the Domesday Survey, Hartford included King's Ripton [...], which accounts for the return of the two churches and mills. [...] Of the church mentioned in the Domesday Survey (1086) nothing remains. The two arcades are of the extreme end of the 12th century, the northern perhaps slightly the earlier; the north and east walls of the chancel may be of the same date. [...] The 13th-century font has a square bowl on a circular central and four modern angle shafts." The Parish web site [ww.allsaintshartford.org.uk/#/history-1/4535923112] [accessed 20 April 2012] notes: "The square bowl of the font sits on a circular centre and dates from the 12th Century. The four side, angle shafts and the base belong to the 18th Century. This was moved to its present position in the centre of the west-end during restoration in 1895, from near the south door." The square basin has chamfered corners, but the chamfer does not fully reach the bottom part, leaving thus a 'spur' at each angle; the inner well is round; the original shaft and the replacement colonnettes of the base have roll mouldings at top and bottom; the square lower base is modern and plain.
