The Victoria County History (Essex, vol. 6: 1973) notes: "A church was evidently in existence by 1177 when it was confirmed among the possessions of the canons of Waltham Holy Cross. [...] In 1191 the Pope assigned this church, among others, to the use of the sacristy at Waltham. [...] Woodford parish church has been dedicated to St. Mary since at least the 14th century, though it has sometimes been known as St. Margaret's [...] Nothing survives of the medieval building." There is no mention of a font in the VCH entry for this parish; all other churches in it are described as modern [NB: we have no information on the font of the medieval church here].
