The present baptismal font in this monastery church is made of grey and pink granite and consists of a large polygonal basin with a rounded underbowl, raised on a short octagonal stem and an octagonal-to-square lower base decorated with scrolls at the angles. The octagonal wooden cover is plain and flat, modern. [NB: according to the SIPA entry for this church [www.monumentos.pt/Site/APP_PagesUser/SIPA.aspx?id=4864] [accessed 11 February 2012] the monastery was founded on 13 July 1059 by D. Gomes Aciegas. The present font is relatively modern, probably 18th-century, perhaps from the restoration and expansion by Frei José de Santo António Vilaça -- we have no information on the medieval font here].
