Inside the church here is a composite object that appears to be used at present as holy-water stoup; it consists of an octagonal basin of light pink stone (limestone?) with a torus-scotia-torus at the upper rim, and diagonal ribs with heraldic emblem(s) alternating with vegetal motifs on the rounded sides and underbowl; a moulding at the bottom of the underbowl. The pedestal base is also octagonal, but both the colour of the stone and the ornamentation are illmatched with the basin, suggesting the composite nature of the object; the side panels have columns of square four-petaled rosettes alternating with columns of other floral (and shell?) motifs; thick mouldings at each end, with the lower base square. The damage to the upper rim of the basin suggests that there may have been cover hardware in the rim, which reinforce the possibility of this object having been originally a baptismal font. The present font in the cathedral is made of fine granite [stone identified by Joost Limburg] and consists of an urn-shaped octagonal basin decorated with a profusion of mouldings, scallop, foliage, etc., motifs, raised on an octagonal pedestal base equally ornamented. the font cover is octagonal, flat and plain, and appears modern. [NB: the cathedral dates from the mid-15th century, but we have no information on its original font].
