The Victoria County History (Wiltshire, vol. 12, 1983) notes: "A church at Axford, presumably a chapel of ease, was recorded in 1288 as having been used for baptism in 1267. [...] There is no later reference to it. [...] A chapel of ease dedicated to St. Michael and served from Ramsbury was built at Axford in 1856." There is no mention of a font in the VCH entry for this parish. The Church of England site [http://www.achurchnearyou.com/axford-st-michael/] [accessed 27 January 2012] reports "a stone Font with oak cover locally made" inside the modern chapel of St. Michael.
