There is 1807 watercolour of this font by John Buckler (1770-1851), The Victoria County History (Wiltshire, vol. 10, 1975) notes: "A church at Wilsford is mentioned in the earlier 12th century. [...] Of the church at Wilsford mentioned in the early 12th century nothing remains except possibly a doorway reset into the external face of the north wall of the nave." There is no mention of a font in the VCH entry for this parish. The British Listed Buildings database [ww.britishlistedbuildings.co.uk/en-311117-church-of-st-nicholas-wilsford] [accessed 25 January 2012] reports: "Font, under tower arch, deep octagonal drum on short pedestal." The plain octagonal basin has chamfered angles at top and bottom, and appears fairly battered; raised on a short octagonal pedestal base, also plain but for a double moulding at the lower end; plain square lower base. The wooden cover is octagonal, flat and plain, but for a crucifix flat on the top; appears modern. It is difficult to date the font with any precision, or to be certain whether all the parts belong to the same period, probably the 13th or 14th century.
