The base of a pillar in the nave has been tentatively identified locally as a possible basin of an old font recycled here as building material, probably in one of the renovations of the church; the octagonal lower base of the pillar may actually have been the lower base of an earlier font instead, as the carved sides of this object do not appear to hold true when the piece is turned upside down; it is also possible that the block on top of it may have been the stem of the old font. The present font of this church is said to have been a re-cut of the old 13th-century basin [cf. Index entry for Upwey No. 2 for the present font]
