The on-line Enciclopedia Auñamendi entry for this church [www.euskomedia.org/aunamendi/18330/37347] [accessed 31 December 2011] describes the present font as neo-Classical, but reports the discovery in 2001 of an upturned medieval font found buried beneath the present one [="Bajo la pila, en el 2001, apareció una pila medieval invertida"]; it is a plain hemispherical vessel much damaged at the upper rim and sides, some of the damage consistent with the presence of metal staples from an old cover; the stone appears to be a light-pink limestone. It is now mounted on a modern base. [NB: according to the Enciclopedia... [cf. supra] the fabric of the church dates from the 15th century; is is possible tha this old basin nay be from that date, though most likely it is medieval, as suggested; there is a Romanesque rural chapel nearby, the Ermita románica de la Virgen del Campo, but we have no information whether it had a font or not -- was the discovered font from that chapel?]
