Church Notes: the original church here was apparently founded by the Augustinian canons of the priory of Sainte-Croix de Guingamp; it was damaged by the English in the mid-14th century, and re-built soon thereafter; restored at least twice in the 19th century
Included by Enlart (1902) in a list of French double-fonts and as octagonal of Gothic style on which he identifies the heads of the four animals symbolic of the Evangelists. The Palissy database [référence: PM22001047] notes the baptismal font of the church as being made of granite and measuring 100 cm in height; the larger of the two basins is raised on a prismatic stem and a square base; the smaller basin is not decorated at all. Both references appear to refer to the double-basin font inside the church, in the baptistery ["la chapelle des fonts"], located at the southwest end of the nave, beneath the tower. The four heads decorating the larger of the two basins appear to be human and bearded, wearing different headgear, therefore not likely to be the symbols of the Evangelists; the octagonal stem of the main basin is moulded; the secondary basin is also octagonal but plain; it is raised on a round thin stem, but the lower base is octagonal and moulded. The Topic-Topos site [http://fr.topic-topos.com/fonts-baptismaux-la-roche-derrien] [accessed 26 December 2011] suggests the four heads may symbolise the four rivers of Paradise.
