Workshop/Group/Artisan: heraldic font
Stone baptismal font consisting of an octagonal basin bearing an inscription and decorated with symbols and motifs, raised on an octagonal pedestal base and an equally-shaped water-holding lower base; on one side of the basin is a shield bearing a cot of arms or emble; the next side to the right side bears an inscription in German and Latin with a date in Arabic numerals; the date seems to be 1600 (or 1660?); the upper rim of the font appears totally modern, and there may have been some re-tooling of the rest of the font. The metal cover, round and almost flat, is modern. [NB: the original medieval church was demolished in 1866; we have no information on the medieval font here].
