Church Notes: chapel of ease to the parish church at Umkirch first documented 1362; re-built 1471-1471; became independent parish 1504; re-built 1780-1781; much modified since
There are two fonts in this church; one is dated 1614 [cf. infra] and bears the arms and the initials of the donors; a second font is half-built into the south wall of the nave and appears to be of a later date, perhaps oinstalled in one of the 18th or 19th restorations of the church. The 1614) font is noted in Hermann Brommer, Thomas Steffens: March. Reich an Geschichte und Kunst (Lindenberg: Kunstverlag Josef Fink, 2002), cited in Wikipedia [https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/St._Pankratius_(March-Holzhausen)] [accessed 1 May 2023) give the names of the donors of the font, whose initials are inscribed on it: "1614 stifteten Conrad Harsch, Bruder und Erbe des Andreas, und seine Frau Anna Haitzmännin einen Taufstein [...] Der Taufstein trägt die Jahreszahl „1614“ sowie die Wappen und Initialen der Stifter C[onrad] H[arsch] und A[nna] H[aitzmännin]." The font consists of an octagonal tapering basin, two sides of which are inscribed as noted above; it is raised on an octagonal-to-square pedestal base, which appears very neat, so it may be a later replacement, or have been drastically re-tooled. Octagonal font cover with cross finial. The second and a later baptismal font is made of reddish stone, half-built in the nave south wall; it consists of a round basin with a tall tapering underbowl; a fret pattern decorates the basin sides; the underbowl appears to have foliage motif all around; moulded circular base. The wooden cover is modern, hinged in the middle for access to the inside well. Also noted in the Parish web site [http://www.kath-kirche-march.de/kkm/holzhausen/stpankratius/] [accessed 2 December 2011].
