There are two entries for Pangbourne [variant spelling] in the Domesday survey [http://domesdaymap.co.uk/place/SU6376/pangbourne/] [accessed 27 March 2015], neither of which mentions cleric or church in it. The Victoria County History (Berkshire, vol. 3, 1923) notes: "The advowson of the church of Pangbourne was probably granted to Reading Abbey with the manor, as it is first mentioned in a confirmatory charter of Archbishop Hubert Walter (1189–1205). [...] The church was entirely rebuilt in the Early Decorated style in 1868 with the exception of the brick west tower erected in 1718. [...] The registers begin in 1556." There is no font mentioned in the VCH entry. [NB: we have no information on the font from the medieval church here].
