There are four entries for Bucklebury [variant spelling] in the Domesday survey [http://domesdaymap.co.uk/place/SU5570/bucklebury/] [accessed 27 March 2015], one of which mentions a church and half a hide of church lands in it. A font here is described in 'Church notes...' (1887) in the context of some "notes [that] were taken between 1835 and 1840": "Font, modern and ugly". The Victoria County History (Berkshire, vol. 3, 1923) notes: "The church of Bucklebury is mentioned in the Domesday Survey, [...] The original building, which was rather shorter than at present, appears to have been erected in the latter half of the 11th century, and is now represented by a portion of the nave walls, which are 2 ft. 8 in. thick. The elaborately carved south doorway, inserted about 1170 [...] The font in use is modern, but in the aisle is a small marble font of the 18th-century." This modern font is shown in the VCH church interior plan as being located about the middle of the nave, towards the north side; the church has a north aisle as well. [NB: we have no informatin on the font(s) from the medieval church].
