There is an entry for Sunningwell [variant spelling] in the Domesday survey [http://opendomesday.org/place/SP4900/sunningwell/] [accessed 2 June 2015], but it mentions neither cleric nor church in it. The Victoria County History (Berkshire, vol. 4, 1924) notes: "The church of Sunningwell is first mentioned in 1246 [...] The walls of the nave may be as early as the 13th century, and part of the chancel is probably of the same date. [...] The font has an octagonal stem and a moulded octagonal bowl." No date for the font is given in the VCH entry. The Sunningwell Parish Council web site [www.sunningwellparishcouncil.gov.uk/index.php?page=st-leonard-s-church] [accessed 22 November 2011] dates the font to the 15th century. The font is noted with a photograph in [www.stleonardsunningwell.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/2011/06/Sunningwell-Church-descriptions-2007-New1.pdf] [accessed 2 June 2015]. [NB: we have no information on the font from the mid-13th century church]
