Font Notes:
There are thirteen entries for Oxford [variant spelling] in the Domesday survey [http://opendomesday.org/place/SP5106/oxford/] [accessed 9 November 2016], two of which mention a church in each. There is a 1783 ink-wash-on-paper drawing of this font by Samuel Hieronymus Grimm (1733-1794) in the British Library collections [Shelfmark: Additional MS 15546 - Item number: f.31]; the font is identified in the BL record for the image ["A drawing in ink of the circular font in Magdalen Church in Oxford, drawn by S.H. Grimm"], but not on the recto of the drawing itself. It is not the known font of the Church St. Mary Magdalen of Oxford, nor does it appear to be related to the chapel at Magdalen College either. Was it a later font previously at the St. Mary Magdalen's, since removed? As the BL record [cf. supra] suggests it could very well be of the 17th or 18th century. [NB: we have no information on the present whereabouts of this font].
