There are six entries for Bolnhurst [variant spelling] in the Domesday survey [http://opendomesday.org/place/TL0859/bolnhurst/] [accessed 14 September 2015], none of which mention cleric or church in it. The Victoria County History (Bedford, vol. 3, 1912) notes: "The advowson of the church at Bolnhurst early belonged to the Abbot and monastery of Thorney, [...] being confirmed to them by Pope Alexander III in 1162. [...] The chancel dates in part from the first half of the 13th century, while the nave shows no detail older than the 15th; its walls are, however, on the lines of earlier work [...] There is a plain octagonal font at the west end of the nave".
