The Victoria County History (Hampshire, vol. 3, 1908) notes: "There was a church in Shirley (Old Shirley) at the time of the Domesday Survey [...] upposed to have been pulled down about 1609, and its materials used to enlarge Millbrook church." [NB: Shirley had a new church built in 1836; we have no information on the whereabouts of the font of the demolished church].
