There is an entry for this Avington [variant spelling] in the Domesday survey [http://opendomesday.org/place/SU5332/avington/] [accessed 28 June 2018]; it reports a church in it. The Victoria County History (Hampshire, vol. 3, 1908) notes: "At the time of the Domesday Survey there was a church at Avington in the possession of the bishop. [...] The advowson is now and always has been in the hands of the bishops of Winchester [...] The first book of the registers contains all entries from 1609 to 1812 [...] The [present] church of Our Lady was built 1768–71". [NB: we have no information on the medieval font].
