There is an entry for [Kings] Worthy [variant spelling] in the Domesday survey [http://opendomesday.org/place/SU4932/kings-worthy/] [accessed 6 September 2018] but it mentions neither cleric nor church in it. Paley (1844) reports and illustrates the 14th-century font in this church, but notes that the lower base on which it stands belonged to a Norman font of the type raised on a central shaft and four angle colonnettes. The entry for this parish in the Victoria County History (Hampshire, vol. 4, 1911) notes: "[the font] stands upon a Purbeck marble base belonging to a font of late 12th-century type, with a bowl carried on a central and four flanking shafts." The entry for this church in Historic England [Listing NGR: SU4938532514] notes: "Parish church. Late C12 in origin, C15 tower and windows, rebuilt and extended 1864 [...] Font C14 octagonal with carved sides of quatrefoils with shields or circles inside, stem has cinquefoiled panels, and it stands on base of C12 font." Noted in Leach (1975) as a font made of Purbeck marble: "base only, now supporting a later medieval font" [source given: VCH, 4, 1911]. [cf. Index entry for Kings Worthy No. 2 for the later font]
