There is an entry for Wymering [variant spelling] in the Domesday survey [http://opendomesday.org/place/SU6505/wymering/] [accessed 25 June 2018], but it mentions neither priest nor church in it. The Victoria County History (Hampshire, vol. 3, 1908) notes: "The north arcade of the nave belongs to the last quarter of the twelfth century, and is the earliest part of the church to which a date can be assigned. The south arcade was added about 1220, and the chancel was probably rebuilt about the same time. [...] the restoration of 1860 was drastic, and part of the history of the church doubtless disappeared at the time. [...] The font is modern, a round Purbeck marble bowl standing near the south doorway of the nave." [NB: the entry for this church in the Diocesis of Portsmouth web site [http://portsmouth.anglican.org] [accessed 12 August 2011] suggests an earlier date for this church, ca. 1125; we have no information on the medieval font of this church].
