The present church is a 19th-century re-building by Sir George Gilbert Scott of an earlier one. The Parish Church web site [http://stmarystimsbury.org.uk/about/history/] [accessed 3 August 2011] notes: "The first mention of a parish church in Timsbury was in 1292 when Collinson recorded that “the living is a rectory valued at 9 marks three shillings and four pence” [...] The list of Rectors starts in 1297 with Henary. But the first foundations of the church on the present site may have been earlier than this, possibly even Norman." [NB: we have no information on the font of the earlier church]
