The Victoria County History (Hampshire, vol. 4, 1911) notes: "The church of St. Martin was built on an old site in 1823"; it also notes that the register of baptisms starts in 1653 and that the church was entered in the Valor Ecclesiasticus of 1535. [NB: we have no information on the baptimal font of the original church here; could the plinth of the modern font be from the earlier church here?]
