There is an entry for Tufton [variant spelling] in the Domesday survey [http://opendomesday.org/place/SU4546/tufton/] [accessed 5 September 2018], but it mentions neither cleric nor church in it. The Victoria County History (Hampshire, vol. 4, 1911) notes: "The building on this site in the 12th century probably consisted of a nave and chancel of much the same size as at present. The chancel was rebuilt early in the 13th century and greatly restored in modern times." There is no mention of a font in the VCH. The tub font in this church is noted in the Parish Council [http://www.hurstbournepriors-pc.gov.uk/abouthurstbournepriors/tufton.asp?sForcedTemplate=parish_print/] [accessed 26 July 2011]: "The 19th century furnishings include the pews and the renewed cauldron font which is in the Norman style with tapering bowl and rope frieze near the bottom." The tub font appears to have been restored in modern times, hence the note in the Parish Council page.
