Font Notes:
The Victoria County History (Hampshire, vol. 4, 1911) entry for North Waltham notes: "The advowson of the church of North Waltham was confirmed to the Hospital of St. Cross near Winchester by Richard I in 1189 [...] Before 1865 there was a 12th-century arcade of two bays. All the windows are of early 14th-century style, of simple but very good detail [...] The chancel probably dates from c. 1300. [...] The font has a 15th-century octagonal bowl; it came from the old church of Popham. Each side has a quatrefoiled panel with a square flower in the centre and is moulded beneath. The pedestal and base are modern." The Victoria County History (Hampshire, vol. 3, 1908) entry for Popham notes: "The church of St. Katharine was built by Lord Ashburton in 1875–8 on a new site, and contains no relic of the old church, which stood at the back of the manor farm, except a few glazed floor tiles in the vestry. The font is modern, its predecessor having been sent to North Waltham church." The entry for this church in Historic England [Listing NGR: SU5617846315] notes: "The octagonal font (from Popham) has a C15 bowl on a later base." [NB: we have no information on the medieval font from this church]
