Font Notes:
Kelly's Directory of 1858 reports an ancient church with a font in it [though it does apply the same adjective to the font]. The National Gazetteer of 1868 reports "an antique font" in this church. The church was renovated in 1859. The present font is modern, a Victorian design with a hexafoiled basin raised on a cluster of a central shaft and six outer colonnettes. [NB: the entry in the National Gazetteer of 1868 does not register the renovation of the church, perhaps an indication that the information was taken from another source and not updated at the time -- we have no information on the earlier font; it is likely that the font reported in Kelly [cf. supra] was disposed of at the time of the renovation a year later].
