There are three entries for Thornton [-le-Moor] [variants spellings] in the Domesday survey [https://opendomesday.org/place/TF0596/thornton-le-moor/] [accessed 25 October 2019] none of which mentions cleric or church in it. The entry for this church in Historic England [Listing NGR: TF0494196231] notes: "Parish church; C11, C12 early C13, late C13, restoration 1871. [...] Beside the C19 added porch, is one half of a door arch and impost, cut by the early C13 lancet. As the actual south door is early to mid C12 it seems likely that this plain arch represents a C11 south door, possibly of Anglo Saxon origin"; no font mentioned. The font here consists of an octagonal basin with plain chamfered sides, raised on a plain cylindrical pedestal base and a plain circular lower base. The basin exterior has been re-cut, its shape perhaps greatly altered; the stem appears modern, and the lowwer base is either modern or re-cut. The wooden font cover is octagonal and box-shaped, with busilly carved sides and a foliated finial; appears modern. [NB: the fabric of the church may date from ca. 1100, but was greatly restored in 1871, perhaps the date of the cover and of the alteration on the font]
