There is entry for this Dunton [variant spelling] in the Domesday survey [http://opendomesday.org/place/SP8224/dunton/] [accessed 11 August 2015], but it mentions neither cleric nor church in it. Sheahan (1862) writes: "the font is of stone, octagonal in form, with carved quatrefoils on the sides. When Lipscomb wrote, [i.e., Lipscomb (1831-1843)] the font was 'a large pan of iron, vase-shaped, and painted to resemble veined marble.' The present font is placed under the pointed arch of the chancel." The Victoria County History (Buckingham, vol. 3, 1925) notes: "The church dates from the 12th century [...] The church was restored in the 19th century [...] In the south-east angle of the tower is the square bowl of a font, possibly of 12th-century date, now on a modern base." The English Heritage entry for this church [Listing NGR: SP8237824372] (1959) reports: "Disused square C12 font in tower, C19 octagonal font in use." [http://duntonbucks.org/church/church history and bells.html] [accessed 11 August 2015]. The old font has no cover but it retains one of the metal staples from an old cover. The village web site [http://duntonbucks.org/index.html] [accessed 11 August 2015] notes: "the ancient font, divided into two portions, and for many years made to serve as a doorstep to the tower, was rescued and restored by the Rev. T. J. W. Fisher B.A. rector 1904-7".
