There are two entries for Tyringham [variant spelling] in the Domesday survey [http://opendomesday.org/place/SP8546/tyringham/] [accessed 7 March 2016], neither of which mentions cleric or church in it. No individual entry for Filgrave found in the Domesday survey. Sheahan (1862) reports a plain font in the Church of St. Peter, in Tyringham [this church underwent a major renovation a few years later [cf. infra]]. Sheahan (ibid.) notes also that nothing remains of the church in Filgrave, which had been dedicated to St. Mary and demolished by the mid-18th century. Sheahan (ibid.) quotes earlier sources which document the desecration and and destruction of this church as early as the reign of Elizabeth I (1558+ ); documentation on the church goes back as early as 1160. The Victoria County History (Buckingham, vol. 4, 1927) notes on Tyrengham: "A church existed here from the 12th century, but the only part of the old structure now remaining is the tower, the lower stages of which date from the end of the 12th century and the bell-chamber from about 1500. All the other parts were entirely rebuilt in the Gothic manner in 1871" [the VCH does not mention a font in this church]. The 25 November 1871 issue of 'The Architect and Contract Reporter' (p. 269), in its section on new buildings and restorations reports the recent re-opening of Tyringham St. Peter's after extensive renovations; among the new church furnishings is "a carved stone font". [NB: we have no information on the whereabouts of the medieval font from Filgrave St. Mary's, or the one from Tyringham St. Peter's reported a few years earlier in Sheahan]
